Setting Up Stripe With Your US LLC: The Guide to an Account That Lasts

Set up Stripe with your US LLC the right way: which data has to match, what Stripe really checks and how to build an account that opens and stays open.

Published: February 10, 2026

For many people, Stripe is the real reason for the whole formation: the best payment provider in the world, finally with full access instead of the residence lottery of restricted countries. And the US LLC really is the cleanest route to a full Stripe account. But Stripe accounts do not only get opened, they also get closed, usually for avoidable reasons. Here is the guide to an account that opens and lasts.

The basis: one data set, one story

Stripe verifies your LLC against official sources, and the rules behind bank account rejections apply here word for word: the LLC's name exactly as in the formation document, the EIN exactly as in the IRS letter, an address consistent with your documents, your name as beneficial owner exactly as in your passport. Stripe also wants to verify you as a person, depending on the setup with ID and sometimes with US taxpayer number logic for the people responsible. The order of the setup: LLC and EIN first, then a US business account for payouts, then Stripe. Apply for Stripe before the account and you are building the roof before the foundation.

What Stripe really checks: your plausibility

Verification is the smaller part. The bigger part is risk review, and it never stops. Stripe wants to see that your business exists and delivers what it promises: a working website with company details, clear service descriptions, prices, contact information and a cancellation or refund policy, a business model that is not on the list of restricted businesses (check this honestly before you apply; being found out later means account closure with frozen funds), and a statement descriptor your customers recognize, so they do not file chargebacks out of confusion.

The three habits that keep accounts alive

First, chargeback hygiene. Nothing kills Stripe accounts more reliably than chargeback rates. Clear product descriptions, reachable support, generous refunds when in doubt: a refund is cheaper than a dispute. Second, volume with advance notice. An account that does 3,000 dollars a month for months and then suddenly 80,000 in one week ends up in review, often with a payout freeze. Before launches and campaigns, announce the volume in your Stripe settings or let support know. Third, clean data upkeep. Address changes, new websites, new product lines: update them in the dashboard before the discrepancy gets noticed. The same discipline that keeps your bookkeeping lean keeps Stripe calm.

Taxes and reporting: what happens in the background

As a US payment provider, Stripe reports revenue to the IRS through the 1099-K system, which is no problem for your transparent LLC but one more argument for complete records: your numbers and Stripe's numbers should know each other. The sales tax side of your sales, sales tax in the US, reverse charge and OSS questions in Europe, is not handled by Stripe for you; Stripe Tax can calculate, but filing is on you. And on Stripe Atlas, which is often read as a competing offer: Atlas forms a company for you, but it does not answer a single one of the questions setups actually fail on: residence, tax obligations, 5472 deadlines, banking strategy. Selling a tool is not the same as looking after a client.

Your next step

In the complete package we build the foundation in the right order: LLC, EIN, account, and the documents Stripe's review expects.
