The character of the state

In 1867, US Secretary of State William Seward bought a land of ice from the Russians: 7.2 million dollars for a sixth of a continent. For years the press mocked it as "Seward's Folly". Then came the gold, then the oil, and the folly turned into the best real estate deal in history. Today Alaska is the only state with no income tax and no sales tax, and it turns the relationship between state and citizen upside down: the Permanent Fund pays every resident an annual dividend from oil revenue. A state run like a public company, with glaciers.

Do you really need an Alaska LLC?

The honest question before you order: if what draws you to Alaska is mainly the look of it, you don't need an Alaska LLC for that. Your business address is yours to choose, in any state, for any LLC. There are two things an address cannot replace, though, and they belong to the full picture. First: your contracts and invoices show the company's state of formation. If they need to say "Alaska" in so many words, you really do need the Alaska LLC. Second: an address is appearance, not substance. If you actually keep premises, staff or ongoing business operations in Alaska, you create a real point of connection there, with reporting and tax consequences, regardless of where the LLC was formed.
